A725 Whirlies to Crossbasket Resurfacing

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is resurfacing 2.2km of the A725 between the Whirlies Roundabout and Crossbasket in East Kilbride.

In order to deliver this scheme as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to implement a three-phased traffic management system including weekend contraflow and overnight closures of the trunk road in this immediate area.

In line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance, our operatives will follow strict physical distancing protocols throughout the project.

Darren Mitchell, Amey’s Senior Structural Maintenance Engineer said:

“This is a busy section of trunk road connecting two of Lanarkshire’s largest towns. As such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we complete these works in order to maintain road safety. Works will be carried out under a combination of weekend contraflow working and overnight closures, in order to reduce the impact on communities and businesses as they recover at this time.

“We have implemented many new working practices across our own workforce and those of our supply chain partners as we work towards the future delivery of our new maintenance contract. Thorough risk assessments have been carried out as we take a lead in the delivery of trunk road maintenance.

“Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their patience while we deliver this important improvement project.”

The resurfacing of this 2.2km section of trunk road will be delivered under the following traffic management:

  • Phase 1 – Weekend contraflow 8pm on Saturday 17th until 6am on Monday 19th October

  • Phase 2 – Overnight closure Whirlies Roundabout to A725 onslip merge from Mavor Roundabout 8pm on Monday 19th until 6am on Tuesday 20th October

  • Phase 3 – Four overnight closures of A725 from Whirlies Roundabout and Mavor Roundabout to Douglas Street from:

- 8pm on Tuesday 20th until 6am on Wednesday 21st October

- 8pm on Wednesday 21st until 6am on Thursday 22nd October

- 8pm on Thursday 22nd until 6am on Friday 23rd October

- 8pm on Friday 23rd until 6am on Saturday 24th October

Lengthy overnight diversions will be in place during Phase 3, with drivers advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys. Special arrangements have been made for emergency service vehicles. No additional measures will be implemented for windfarm traffic or those carrying abnormal loads.
