ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THE A78 IN GREENOCK FROM WEST SHAW STREET TO LADY ALICE BOWLING CLUB COMMENCES FRIDAY 28th OCTOBER 2022

UPDATE (07/11/22): Phase Three of maintenance on the A78 in Greenock (works between the South Street Roundabout and Lady Alice Bowling Club under temporary traffic signals and convoy working overnight 8pm-6am) will now commence on Tuesday 8 November 2022 for six nights. Traffic management will now be removed at 6am on Sunday 13 November 2022.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential maintenance on the A78 in Greenock between West Shaw Roundabout and Lady Alice Bowling Club, including the South Street Roundabout circulatory, from Friday 28th October until Saturday 12th November 2022.

This scheme, with a value of £227,000, will benefit around 16,373 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The programme of work is as follows:

  • Friday 28th October – Monday 31st October 2022: A full weekend closure will be in place between the West Shaw Street Roundabout and the South Street Roundabout from 8pm on Friday 28th October until 6am on Monday 31st October 2022 and signed diversions will be in effect. Northbound A78 traffic will be directed to exit  South Street Roundabout to join Nelson Street and will then follow Kilblain Street, Hastie Street, and West Shaw Street to re-join the A78. Southbound A78 traffic will exit at Sir Michael Street Roundabout, follow St Michael Street on to Regent Street, Lynedoch Street and the B7054 to re-join the A78 at Dunlop Street. The one-way TTRO on Newton Street will be revoked during the full weekend closure to allow access from Nelson Street.

This phase of works will be complete at 6am on Monday 31st October 2022.

  • Monday 31st October – Friday 4th November 2022: Work will be carried out overnight between West Shaw Street Roundabout and the Lady Alice Bowling Club using temporary traffic lights and convoy operations between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

This phase of works will be complete at 6am on Saturday 5th November 2022.

  • Monday 7th November – Friday 11th November 2022: Work will be carried out overnight between the South Street Roundabout and the Lady Alice Bowling Club using temporary traffic lights and convoy operations between the hours of 8pm and 6am. There will not be access between the roundabout, Nelson Street, and South Street during these works and signed diversions will be in place. Traffic should exit Nelson Street and turn onto Kilblain Street, then to Hastie Street and finally West Shaw Street, where traffic may re-join the A78. Traffic on South Street should exit onto Robertson Street, turn on to Finnart Street and finally join Nelson Street, where they should follow the above diversion to the A78.

This phase of works will be complete at 6am on Saturday 12th November 2022.

We thank road users for their continued patience and cooperation whilst these essential works take place.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
