ESSENTIAL RESURFACING ON THE A78 BETWEEN SOUTHANNAN ROUNDABOUT AND HUNTERSTON ROUNDABOUT COMMENCES MONDAY 13TH MARCH 2023

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential resurfacing on the A78 between Southannan Roundabout and Hunterston Roundabout from Monday 13th March until Monday 3rd April 2023

This scheme will benefit around 7,800 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using two full weekend closures and additional overnight closures (9pm – 6am) as well as daytime temporary traffic lights. A signed diversion will be in place. We thank road users for their co-operation and patience while this essential work takes place.

The closures and signed diversion will operate as follows:

Overnight Closures: There will be a full road closure of the A78 between Southannan and Hunterston Roundabouts, between the hours of 9pm and 6am each night, during the week Monday 13th March to Thursday 16th March and on Monday 20th March and Tuesday 21st March 2023.

Daytime Temporary Traffic Lights will also be in place between 9.30am and 4pm on Monday 13th March 2023, and between 6am and 8pm on Wednesday 15th March 2023 and Friday 17th March 2023.

Weekend One: There will be a full road closure of the A78 between Southannan and Hunterston Roundabouts from 9pm on Friday 17th March until 6am on Monday 20th March 2023.

Weekend Two: There will be a full road closure of the A78 between Southannan and Hunterston Roundabouts from 9pm on Friday 31st March until 6am on Monday 3rd April 2023.

Diversion information is as follows:

Northbound traffic will exit the A78 at Chapel Hill Roundabout, taking the B780 north to Dalry and continuing through the town before turning left onto the B784 towards Largs and joining the A760 westbound. Traffic will re-join the A78 in Largs at Haylie Brae. Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in reverse.

During the closures there will be no access between Southannan and Hunterston Roundabouts, but access will be maintained to Clydeport Hunterston from the north.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
