ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THE A8 IN GREENOCK AT BULLRING ROUNDABOUT COMMENCES THURSDAY 24TH NOVEMBER 

 

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential maintenance on the A8 in Greenock between Bullring Roundabout and the Police Station including the circulatory from Thursday 24th November until Saturday 3rd December 2022. Work will take place between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night. 

This scheme, with a value of £238,505, will benefit around 6,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future. 

The work will be carried out using overnight road closures and signed diversions will be in place. There will also be a 34-hour closure from 8pm on Saturday 26th November until 6am on Monday 28th November 2022. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while these essential works take place. 

The signed diversions will be as follows: 

  • Phase A – Thursday 24th November - Monday 28th November 2022: three stages of work on the Bullring Roundabout, including a 34-hour closure for full reconstruction of sections that cannot be completed in overnight works. 
    • Stage 1: 8pm on Thursday 24th November – 6am on Friday 25th November 2022: 
      • Westbound A8 traffic can continue through the roundabout on to the A78 under a convoy.  
      • Traffic for the A770 and Container Way will be diverted via the A78, West Stewart Street, Patrick Street and then may re-join the A770. 
      • Please note that there will be no access to the roundabout from the A78. Traffic will be diverted via West Stewart Street, Patrick Street and the A770. Traffic may enter the roundabout from the A770 and Container Way and leave at Container Way and A8 eastbound. Traffic from A770 and Container Way for the A78 will be diverted via A8 eastbound to return west at the Cartsburn Roundabout. 
    • Stage 2: 8pm on Friday 25th November – 6am on Saturday 26th November 2022: 
      • Westbound traffic from the A8 for the A78, A770 and Container Way will be diverted via Brymner Street, Custom House Way, clarence street, Laird Street, A770, Patrick Street, Union Street, Kilblain Street, Hastie Street and finally, West Shaw Street to re-join the A78. 
      • There will be no access to the roundabout from the A78 and traffic will be diverted via West Stewart Street, Patrick Street and the A770. Traffic may enter the roundabout from the A770 and Container Way, and leave at Container Way and A8 eastbound under convoy. Traffic from the A770 and Container way for the A78 will be diverted via the A8 eastbound to follow Brymner Street, Custom House Way, Container Way, the A770, Patrick Street, Union Street, Hastie Street and finally, West Shaw Street to re-join the A78. 
    • Stage 3: 8pm on Saturday 26th November – 6am on Monday 28th November 2022: 
      • Westbound traffic from the A8 can continue through the roundabout onto the A78 only. Traffic for the A770 will be diverted via the A78, West Stewart Street and Patrick Street to join the A770. Traffic for Container Way will be diverted via the A78, West Stewart Street, Patrick Street and Clarence Street to join Container Way.  
      • There will be no access to the roundabout from the A770 and traffic for the A8 eastbound will be diverted via Laird Street, Container Way, Custom House Way and Brymner Street to join the A8. Traffic for the A78 will be diverted via Laird Street, Container Way, Custom House Way, Brymner Street and the A8 westbound to join the A78 at the Bullring Roundabout. Traffic for Container Way will be diverted via Laird Street.  
      • There will be no access to the roundabout from Container Way and traffic for the A8 eastbound will be diverted via Custom House Way and Brymner Street to join the A8. Traffic for the A78 will be diverted via Custom House Way, Brymner Street and the A8 westbound to join the A78 at the Bullring Roundabout. Traffic for the A770 will be diverted via Laird Street.  
      • There will be no access to the roundabout from the A78 and traffic for the A8 eastbound will be diverted via West Stewart Street, Patrick Street, Clarence Street, Container Way, Custom House Way and Brymner Street to re-join the A8. Traffic for the A770 will be diverted via West Stewart Street and Patrick Street to join the A770. Traffic for Container Way will be diverted via West Stewart Street, Patrick Street and Clarence Street to join Container Way. 
  • Phase B – Monday 28th November and Tuesday 29th November 2022: There will be overnight convoy working between 8pm and 6am on the A8 eastbound carriageway between the Bullring Roundabout and Virginia Street. There will be no access on to the A8 from Brymner Street with traffic being diverted via Custom House Way and Container Way to the Bullring Roundabout. 
  • Phase C – Wednesday 30th November and Thursday 1st December 2022: There will be overnight closures of the Bullring Roundabout at the A8 eastbound between 8pm and 6am. Eastbound traffic will be diverted via Container Way, Custom House Way and Brymner Street to join the A8 eastbound. 
  • Phase D – 8pm on Friday 2nd December – 6am on Saturday 3rd December 2022: Lane closures on the Bullring roundabout and the A8 eastbound to complete the scheme. There is no planned diversion for this phase. 

 

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. 

 

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
