TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT UPDATE DEC 2022:

Essential parapet and cope replacement works on the North Approaches to the M8 Kingston Bridge

Balfour Beatty, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, began works on the 29 August 2022 to replace copes and parapets on the North Approaches to the M8 Kingston Bridge. The-second phase of these works on the westbound carriageway was completed on Tuesday 20th December 2022.

The final phase of the works will involve overnight closures on the eastbound side of the bridge, commencing on the 9th January 2023. Closures will be in place most nights between 10pm and 6am for approximately 2 weeks. The diversion route for eastbound M8 traffic during the closures will be:

  • M8 Junction 22 M77, A8, Carlisle M74 > M74 Junction 1 A8 Tradeston > Paisley Road > Kingston St > King George V Bridge > Broomielaw > North Street > M8

Traffic heading to Edinburgh and the Lothians are encouraged to use the M74 and M73.

Closures are required for these works to create enough working space to safely complete the replacement of bridge deck joints.

Outwith these times, the bridge will operate as normal without restrictions.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

We anticipate that the project will be complete by February 2023.

Please note, these works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice if weather conditions are not favourable.

Parapet and cope replacement works on the North Approaches to the M8 Kingston Bridge

Balfour Beatty, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, will begin works on the 29th August 2022 to replace copes and parapets on the North Approaches to the M8 Kingston Bridge. To safely facilitate these works overnight closures will be in place, starting in the Eastbound direction, between 10pm and 6am most nights for approximately 10 weeks from the 5th of September.

Out with these times, the bridge will operate with narrowed lanes, for the safety of road users and the workforce, whilst any day shift works are being completed. During the closures, signed diversion routes will be in place. For the eastbound closures the diversion route for M8 traffic will be:

M8 Junction 22 M77, A8, Carlisle M74 > M74 Junction 1 A8 Tradeston > Paisley Road > Kingston St > King George V Bridge > Broomielaw > North Street > M8

Traffic heading to Edinburgh and the Lothians are encouraged to use the M74 and M73.

The second phase of works will involve overnight closures most nights on the westbound side of the bridge, commencing on the 30 October 2022. The diversion route for westbound M8 traffic during the full closure will be:

Exit M8 18 Charing X/Kelvingrove > Newton Street > M8 Westbound

Traffic heading beyond west of Glasgow is encouraged to use the M73 and M74.

During periods of closure, local traffic using the Anderston on/off slip will be diverted via the following routes:

Anderston off Slip Closure

Exit M8 18 Charing X/Kelvingrove > Newton Street > Argyle St

Anderston on Slip Closure

Continue on North Street > Join M8 Westbound at Junction 18

Closures are required for these works to create enough working space to safely complete the demolition and removal of the existing copes and parapets, manage delivery of materials to the work site and install replacement copes and parapets. Closures will be re-scheduled where local events are planned that are likely to cause significant disruption.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

We anticipate that the project will be complete by February 2023.

Noise monitoring will commence one week prior to the start of works to provide baseline data for comparison and, during the works, we will monitor noise levels to measure compliance. We will utilise best practice construction techniques to reduce noise disruption from night works as far as practicable however some disruption may occur.

Please note, these works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice if weather conditions are not favourable.
