Barrier Replacement

ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THE M8 AT BLOCHAIRN ROAD COMMENCES MONDAY 28TH JUNE

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential maintenance to replace road safety barriers on the on and off slip roads at M8 at J14 and the road barrier in the centre reserve NB side of Viewpark Avenue.

All works will take place on an overnight-working-only basis (10pm – 6am, each night).

Preliminary site investigation works will be undertaken overnight next week on two nights only:

Monday 28th June will involve closure of the M8 WB onslip only at J14, and

Thursday 1st July 2021 will involve closure of the M8 EB offslip only at J14.

Signed diversions will be in place for both nights as noted below.

Phases One and Two of the barrier replacement works will be carried out between Sunday 25th July and Monday 16th August 2021.

This scheme, with a value of £355,000, will benefit around 160,500 vehicles using this route each day, by replacing the existing VRS systems and increasing road safety for users. Higher containment systems will also be installed across the footbridge piers to protect them from impact damage, which will prolong the lifespan of the structures.

Phase One requires a closure of Viewpark Avenue northbound and the M8 westbound Junction 14 on-slip road, signed diversion routes will be in operation. Traffic intending to join the M8 via this slip road will be diverted via Alexandra Park Street, Cumbernauld Road, Alexandra Parade, Castle Street, and finally onto the A803.

Phase Two requires the closure of the M8 between the eastbound off-slip road and Junction 14 with a signed diversion route in operation. Traffic will be diverted via the M8 Junction 13 off-slip road onto the A80, Cumbernauld Road, and finally onto Alexandra Parade.

Road users are encouraged to allow an additional 10-15 minutes on journeys to follow diversions or plan an alternative route where possible.

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
