Traffic Management Update

Issued: 1 March 2023

Please note that traffic management has been updated for high mast lighting upgrades at Junction 15 on the M8. Please see below for details.

ESSENTIAL MAST LIGHTING UPGRADES ON THE M8 AT JUNCTION 15 COMMENCES THURSDAY 26TH JANUARY 2023

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are undertaking essential high mast lighting replacements and upgrades on the M8 between Junctions 15 and 16 from Thursday 26th January and Friday 28th April 2023. This will take place under a combination of daytime and night-time work.

The scheme will improve the condition of carriageway lighting along this crucial section of the M8, reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out by utilising existing M8 on-slip closures, hard shoulder closures, and pedestrian management. The installation process for the mast lighting will require various overnight total closures of the roads adjacent to each mast. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work takes place.

The traffic management programme for this maintenance will be as follows:

Wednesday 1st March – A803 southbound closure at Royston Road including M8 junction 15 Loop U

Thursday 2nd March – Royston Road westbound closure including the M8 junction 15 eastbound off slip

Monday 6th March – Castle Street closure (both directions however, there will be a lane available within the closure and past the works for use for emergency vehicles only)

Tuesday 7th March – M8 eastbound total closure from junction 18 through to junction 15 (including Junction 16)

Wednesday 8th March – M8 eastbound total closure from junction 18 through to junction 15 (including junction 16 and M8 junction 15 eastbound Stirling Road on slip)

In addition, works to upgrade the associated electrical infrastructure supplying the high mast lights and improving areas of hardstanding adjacent to some of them are also planned. The following are currently planned to facilitate these aspects of the project:

Friday 3rd March – Nearside lane closure of Castle Street southbound

Monday 6th to Friday 10th March – Nearside lane closure of Castle Street southbound

Pedestrian management will be in place adjacent to the works areas and lane closures during these works.

Additional traffic management may be required and information will be communicated in due course.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
